Boiler Leaking Water
Standing water next to a firing burner is a bad combination in the middle of a cold stretch, so make the call while the house is still holding heat.
When this becomes an emergency
- A wet ring under the boiler keeps coming back after you mop it up.
- The pressure needle sits higher than the mark it has held all season.
- Damp drywall or soaked insulation has shown up on the wall behind the unit.
- The relief valve is weeping constantly rather than opening once and closing again.
What a pro does
Finding the source comes first. A tech follows the water back uphill from the puddle to a circulator seal, a threaded joint that has given up its sealant, an automatic fill valve that keeps pushing more water into the loop, or a relief valve opening because the expansion tank behind it lost its air cushion. Pressure that climbs on its own isn't the boiler's fault; it points at the fill side of the system rather than at the boiler. Killing power and closing the feed line stops the damage while you wait, which counts for more out here where the nearest tech may have an hour of highway to cover.
